She graduated from the University of Kansas with a BS in Occupational Therapy. Heelan has worked at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago since 1987. She also works independently in a school district north of Chicago within their Special Education Program with early childhood students through 8th grade. Heelan lives in Mundelein, Illinois and visits schools in and around the Chicago area and will consider invitations to travel to other states.
