Johanny has published in numerous literary magazines and is represented in several important anthologies of Latina poets. Very active on the Chicago poetry scene, she hosts the Guild Complex Bilingual Series Palabra Pura.

Streetwise Poems / Poemas Callejeros, a bilingual Spanish/English collection of poems with translations by author Johanny Vázquez Paz, explores the collision between Latina Caribbean and Midwest urban in the poet s life experience. Paz conveys a vivid sense of the rough and rugged streets of Chicago framed against the memory of life in Puerto Rico. She sees an alley where dogs dig and drunks pass out but lovers can still find romance she marvels at worn-out shoes and reports her current life ironically to those who stayed behind. These poems explore the persistence and significance of the author's Puerto Rican sensibility in her Midwestern daily life.
