Biographical and Professional Information

The author's mother (about who the book is written) was a labor organizer for the Progressive Mine Workers Union in southern Illinois. During World War II, he was jailed for almost 3 years for being a conscientous objector. After the war, he joined the editorial board of "Why?" which was later renamed "Resistance". He received a Ph.D.from Columbia in 1958 and began teaching at Rensselaer in Troy, New York. He taught philosophy and was a social anarachist theorist, well known in left wing intellectual circles.
