Biographical and Professional Information

Grace DuMelle’s experience on both sides of the reference desk -- as a staffer and as a researcher -- influenced the very practical, hands-on approach of her book, Finding Your Chicago Ancestors: A Beginner’s Guide to Family History Research in the City and Cook County. It has received state, regional and national awards for instructional nonfiction, and is now in its second printing from Lake Claremont Press in Chicago.She lectures and teaches on aspects of genealogy and house history. Featured in “House Hunter,” Chicago, January 2005; “Nurturing your family tree,” The Chicago Tribune, February 6, 2004; “Owners Eager for History Spur A Boom in ‘House Genealogy,’” The Wall Street Journal, May 17, 2002.
