[Studiotalk] Considering digital media for recording?

We have recorded using Ipads. We experimented using Kindles, Nooks and Ipads, and the Ipad worked best. However, the newer Kindles would probably work as well. We found that the recording works great; there are no more page turn noises; the narrators don't move their heads around as much, so sound levels are more consistent, and most volunteers like them better than print books. However, there are issues.
Here, we can't let the volunteers take the Ipads home, so they have to take the print book home to pre-read. And the can mark up the book with notes and pronunciations, etc; that is harder to do with the tablet. It is also a little more difficult to find the mistake when doing corrections.
Also, many of the books we record are not available as ebooks, and we have an issue with our purchasing process. So for now, we are doing mostly print books, but hope to resolve some issues and begin to use the tablets again.

I'm specifically asking about the use of digital media being read from i.e. utilizing an iPad, kindle, computer, etc. when recording.
Thanks,
Etta :)

Howdy Etta!
Do you mean digital media read from: having narrators read from a tablet, iPad, etc.?
We've not yet begun having narrators read from such mobile devices but will soon.
Or do you mean digital media recording to: having the recording saved to hard drive, server, etc.?
We record on desktop PCs but the files are saved to a networked server.

Hi all,
Have any of you experimented with using digital media or materials when recording? I have a few questions about the logistics and would love to hear what has worked or not for other sites.
Thanks,
Etta :)
