Howdy Marcus,

Please call me Miles or SMiles. :-)

Briefly, we had been using a hardware/software combination called Telex Edat/Zing which included an internal sound card with RCA style audio inputs which ran from our high-speed Infonics Reel-to-Reel unit into the PC. This software/hardware was designed with NLS standards in-mind and automatically pitch-shifted the high-speed input down to correct speeds for listening as well as reversing the backwards audio channels from the reel masters. However, our IRT department forced us to abandon this setup due to regulations regarding "obsolete" / "legacy" software - this hardware/software was only compatible with the Windows XP OS and we've been forced forward to only products running on Windows 7.

After initial attempts to utilize Sony Sound Forge software connected to a FocusRite Scarlett 18i6 DAI (Digital Audio Interface device connected with XLR cables to said Infonics high-speed Reel-to-Reel unit) were thwarted by technical bugs/issues, we went down an extremely frustrating path attempting to use some free software from Ableton called Live 9 Lite with FocusRite Scarlett 18i6 & 18i8 DAIs.

We spent far too long developing procedures for this terribly frustrating Ableton Live 9 Lite software. Just as we were about to begin training staff on this software, we decided it would be worthwhile to re-examine the Sony Sound Forge option to see if the bugs/issues we'd encountered had perhaps been fixed. While some of the issues have been fixed, there still remain one or two issues, however, these are surmountable and we've decided that, given the terrible / frustrating aspects of the Ableton Live 9 Lite software, we're going forward with using Sony Sound Forge - which we already use extensively for post-production / mastering etc.

I can send you more details soon. :-)

Hi Stephen,

Is there a specific software you use for the A2D conversions? How does that process work?
