[Studiotalk] Local Network Produced Books

The NLS guidelines for books uploaded to BARD want ID numbers included in the opening announcements. However, they do not require this number to be the DBC#. However, the DBC# is required within the DTB's meta-data for file-naming purposes and complex NLS BARD backend processes.

Here in Texas, we include our own prefix (DT) and local-ID#.

The various prefixes and ID#s can pose a challenge within one's local ILS software and databases.

We assign a new book with our local DT#, which is recorded as part of the opening announcements. When the recording process is completed and we apply navigational markups, we then assign the book one of our NLS allotted DBC#s so that the book can be exported/compressed by the HABC software. We then report the book to our local Collections staff as completed and ready for duplication / upload to BARD. They then report the completion and relevant information to NLS BCS staff who then update the Voyager catalog records. Once our Collections staff see that the Voyager record has been properly updated (showing our local DT# and NLS DBC#) they alert me and then I, finally, can upload the encrypted / protected PDTB to BARD and then 24-hours later can QC the title one last time (per NLS guidelines) and then approve the title for "public" patron access.

Subject: [Studiotalk] Local Network Produced Books

Good Day all, I thought I would post a question to Studio Talk.
As you know we here @ CSL are getting ready to kick the Talking Books program into gear and Mike and I had a question regarding treatment of local book numbers for In house "Local Network Produced Books."
As in, is there a protocol for handling the narration and record keeping of dual numbers, in our case CDB (California Digital Book) versus DBC which are assigned by NLS? The local number does not appear in the BARD DBC recording, or does it even though it's not referenced in the Voyager catalog record?> Since we have not put out a book yet we do not know how this process works .............. any help would be very much appreciated.

Thank you all!
