Hello all -

Greetings from Montana! We added a second recording booth in 2017 that was entirely paid for with donations. Phillip Carbo at NLS was extremely helpful, and he helped us with the specs and installation details. We use the following products.

-We purchased a custom studio from Eckel Noise Control Technologies: https://www.audiologyrooms.com/. I recommend them. They were great to work with.

-Like the folks in Maryland, we use Hindenburg Audiobook Creator to record, edit, and create our audiobooks. We enjoy this product too. https://hindenburg.com/products/hindenburg-abc-nls

-Our audio interface is Focusrite Scarlett https://www.amazon.com/Focusrite-Scarlett-Audio-Interface-Tools/dp/B01E6T50GY/ref=pd_lpo_sbs_267_t_2?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=4TWSGKPKT4QP53KRRJ6H-

-Audio Technica microphone with shockproof mount on a studio boom arm https://www.audio-technica.com/cms/wired_mics/cae8c23cfe000574/index.html

-Punchlight Recording Light.

-Our monitors' microphones are old ones that we already had, and they work fine.

-We use Sony headphones.

-A computer, two adjustable tables, two chairs, and a couple of bright table lamps for extra light.

Good luck! Feel free to contact me directly if you have any questions.

Erin

Subject: [Studiotalk] Recording studio set up

We have been presented with a grant opportunity for a recording studio to record local books, can anyone suggest what we might need? We currently have a room, about 8 ft. by 8ft, it has a window and ceiling tiles on the walls for sound (It was a rough recording studio a few decades ago). We've used Audacity in the past for short newsletters. I'm thinking we would need maybe 2 or 3 microphones, a filter, not really sure what else. Can anyone suggest a list of items?

Thanks!

"Books are the eyes of the blind. They reveal to us the glories of the light-filled world, they keep us in touch with what people are thinking and doing, they help us to forget our limitations. With our hands plunged into an interesting book, we feel independent and happy." Helen Keller, 1930
