Lin,

We did research and found an article from The Economic Time (May 28, 2020) "How long can coronavirus survive on surfaces and in the air?" It stated the particles stay suspended in the air for about a half-hour before they drift to a surface. After 30 minutes we go in and clean. We spoke to NLS about how to clean the microphone and they recommended using a Clorox wipe. A thorough cleaning of the booth happens after each narrator. We were not going to have our volunteers wear a mask and record because we did not want the quality of sound to change.

Our volunteers have been very appreciative of our guidelines. They adhere to the mask wearing until the narrator is in the booth and then the monitor and narrator take them off. They have adjusted to the way the books and supplies are laid out and how to sign in and out. One volunteer commented they wished more places would take this as seriously as we have. The volunteers are thrilled to be back and I believe are willing to do what is necessary so they can be here and volunteer. And all the cleaning is done by Wolfner staff, so I wouldn't say there are too many restrictions for the volunteers.

Attached are pictures of how the volunteer spaces look like.

I hope this helps and let me know any other questions you have!

Hi Amy,

We haven't even gotten back to having any volunteers in our building yet, but hopefully that is coming sometime soon. My question to you concerns having your narrators recording in your sound booth. Originally, I proposed when we do open to have my narrators use a simple mask to limit possible viral elements being put in the limited air of the booth. While I would rather not do this, I just wondered what caused you to make the decision to allow your readers to narrate without a mask. Does it have anything to do with the way a closed booth recycles the air inside. Just wondered. I'm trying to make returning to the studio as safe but at the same time I don't want to impose too many restrictions on them if they aren't necessary.

Best of luck to you,
