I had found a recent study that had found the aerosolized coronavirus to remain in the air for 30 minutes. The article went out May 28. So 30 minutes to three hours is a big time difference when scheduling.

This presumably reliable source states "Aerosolized coronavirus can remain in the air for up to three hours. A mask can help prevent that spread." On this basis, if a mask is not used, one may not want to sanitize until three hours after the end of a session.

I suppose that if the three hour rule were followed that studio managers could schedule two studio sessions per day--morning and afternoon. Of course, scheduling can prove challenging under ordinary circumstances. For those preferring to schedule more frequently, then mask use may be de rigueur.
It appears that disposable microphone covers are inexpensive and come in a variety of colors and designs. Their use could be considered mandatory during virus concerns and optional otherwise. If a mask is used, then a cover may be optional.
These sources provide information on microphone cleaning (it appears this process, while advisable on occasion, would not be practical on a routine, daily basis:

The Kentucky Talking Book Library volunteer recording program is currently on hiatus due, although our electronic tech continues to digitize our A to D transfer books.
We have two sound booths, and about 15 recording teams that come in each week, along with about 10 proofreaders.
I can Imagine some changes, like having the proofreaders come in on a staggered, pre planned schedule instead of an open schedule, scheduling less and more spaced out recording sessions, and having a plan to sanitize the proofreading computer stations after each use.
Then there are the things I haven?t figured out yet, like the air in the recording booths. I can go in and clean the surfaces of the sound booth?s insides after a session, but how long do we need to wait for droplets to fall out of the air? It?s a person talking in an enclosed box for an hour.
I would be very interested in any best practices that other programs develop.
Stay safe,

Hello,
I posed this question a few weeks ago and at the time I got no response. I guess we are all just trying to figure this out. I, too, would be interested in how to open up in a way that reassures our volunteers.

I was wondering if there were any recording studios open? If so, what precautions have you taken to open up and keep contact minimal?
