Hi Linden,
Greetings from Big Sky Country! We have been fortunate in Montana (so far) because we have had several days of 0 new Covid-19 cases, so we are in Phase 1 of reopening. (Our Covid-19 map was created by and is maintained by Montana State Library GIS staff: https://montana.maps.arcgis.com/apps/MapSeries/index.html?appid=7c34f3412536439491adcc2103421d4b). However, state employees have been asked to continue to work from home if possible. So, our library remains closed to the public, and probably will be for the foreseeable future. While we haven't created actual guidelines yet, I know we will start slowly when asking volunteers back to the library. We will start with machine repair volunteers, then some circulation help, and then recording program volunteers. We will require masks and social distancing, and we have cleaning supplies for workstations. I already clean our recording booths after each team uses the booth, including using alcohol wipes or Clorox wipes on the microphone. So the short answer is: We will go slowly over a long period of time (probably months), in compliance with our Governor's directives.
To date, I haven't had to make any decisions regarding narrators with foreign accents.
Best wishes to you and yours in Indiana.
Yours in quarantine,
Erin
P.S. YOUR DOGS ARE VERY CUTE!

Subject: [EXTERNAL] [Studiotalk] Two questions???
Hello to all,
This is coming to you from my remote location and I suspect that many of you may be in the same boat as I am. I hope that all of you are doing well and staying healthy. These sure are interesting, and for those of us who do what we do, challenging times as well.
Question One: What do you do in regards using narrators with a foreign accent? Do you use them? This comes because I have had a volunteer application sent to me from someone who is originally from India? I have not spoken to her directly as we are clearly weeks away from opening up to outside volunteers, but I wondered how the rest of you would handle this. Many of the foreign nationals that I know and are friends with speak and read English fluently but the accent is still there. Suggestions?
Question Two: Have any of you or your institutions come up with procedures for restarting the recording process after this Covid 19 "shelter in place" ( we've officially called it "Hunker down, Hoosiers" here in Indiana)? If you've got anything written down or anything at all, I'd be interested in seeing how you might be handling the reopening.
Thanks to you all and stay safe.
(See attached for the types of hazards / distractions when it come to working at home)
